‘Djangan Lupa’ is een monument van de toekomst, een ontmoeting van geschiedenis en cultuur met hedendaagse kunst en technologie.

‘Djangan Lupa’ betekent vergeet niet/ vergeet nooit, twee krachtige woorden met meerdere lagen van betekenis.

Het monument staat specifiek stil bij de reis en de aankomst van de eerste en tweede generatie in 1951. We herdenken hiermee een historische gebeurtenis, het begin van een nieuw hoofdstuk. Een verhaal met culturele en maatschappelijke gevolgen, maar ook gemeenschappelijk en persoonlijke uitdagingen, zowel emotioneel als mentaal. Zo kennen we binnen Molukse families geschreven en ongeschreven verhalen.

Door een moderne benadering is het ontwerp tijdloos en vooruitstrevend. Tegelijkertijd helpt het ons te reflecteren en groeit het monument mee met de Molukse identiteit en cultuur in Nederland.

Het ontwerp is gecreëerd door de ogen van de ander, vanuit de ogen van de eerste en tweede generatie, de huidige jonge generaties en de toekomst. De kracht van het hoogstaande kunstwerk speelt in op emotie en toegankelijkheid voor een grote groep, een concept met een heldere boodschap voor alle generaties.

Als Molukse gemeenschap hebben we een gezamenlijk verhaal en als individuen zijn we op onze eigen manieren bezig met cultuur en identiteit. ‘Djangan Lupa’ geeft ruimte voor eenieders interpretatie, gevoelens en herinneringen. Een monument voor Molukkers in Nederland van alle lagen en standen, subculturen en identiteiten. ‘Djangan Lupa’ is voor hem/haar/hen die een connectie voelt met de Molukse identiteit.

Met het monument eren en erkennen we de gevolgen en gebeurtenissen van onze opa’s, oma’s, ooms en tantes die aan het begin stonden van onze reis als Molukse gemeenschap en cultuurvorming in Nederland.

En middels moderne technologie, nemen we een stap richting de toekomst in de beleving van cultuur en kunst en is het mogelijk om alle passagiers te vereeuwigen bij het monument.

Djangan Lupa is een visueel statement en boodschap met toekomstperspectief en vraagt om de reis, de aankomst, de verhalen en namen van de eerste en tweede generatie nooit te vergeten.

‘Djangan Lupa’ is a monument of the future, a meeting of history and culture with contemporary art and technology.

‘Djangan Lupa’ means don’t forget/never forget, two powerful words with multiple layers of meaning.

The monument specifically commemorates the journey and arrival of the first and second generations in 1951.

In doing so, we commemorate a historical event, the beginning of a new chapter. A story with cultural and social consequences, but also communal and personal challenges, both emotional and mental. Within Moluccan families, for instance, we know written and unwritten stories.

Through a modern approach, the design is timeless and progressive. At the same time, it helps us reflect and the monument grows along with the Moluccan identity and culture in the Netherlands.

The design was created through the eyes of the other, from the eyes of the first and second generations, the current young generations, and the future. The strength of the high-level artwork plays on emotion and accessibility for a large group, a concept with a clear message for all generations.

As a Moluccan community, we have a common story and as individuals, we are engaged with culture and identity in our own ways. Djangan Lupa’ gives room for everyone’s interpretation, feelings, and memories. A monument for Moluccans in the Netherlands from all walks of life, subcultures and identities. Djangan Lupa’ is for him/her/they who feels a connection with the Moluccan identity.

With the monument, we honour and acknowledge the consequences and events of our grandfathers, grandmothers, uncles, and aunts who stood at the beginning of our journey as a Moluccan community and culture formation in the Netherlands.

And through modern technology, we take a step towards the future in the experience of culture and art and it is possible to immortalize all passengers at the monument.

Djangan Lupa is a visual statement and message with a future perspective and asks us to never forget the journey, the arrival, the stories, and the names of the first and second generations.
